Susan Boswell, dean of student
life, is responsible for non-academic services for both
the full-time undergraduates and graduate students in the Krieger
School of Arts and Sciences and the Whiting
School of Engineering.
In addition to overseeing residential life, orientation, student
activities, multi-cultural student affairs and student conduct,
she also manages other aspects of student services at Homewood,
including housing and dining services, campus ministry, the counseling
center, and athletics and recreation.
Boswell came to Johns Hopkins in 1986 as a special assistant
to the dean of students and also served as director of student
activities before becoming dean of students in 1988. During the
2000–2001 academic years, she served as interim dean of
Homewood student affairs. That same year she was appointed to
the newly created position of dean of student life.
A 1977 graduate of the State University of New York at Cortland,
Boswell earned a doctorate in counseling psychology from Northern
Arizona University in 1986.
